Exams and grading policies:
There are two formal exams in this course: one
midterm
exam and a final exam.
- Midterm: Friday, October 28, 2005. In class.
- Final exam: Friday, December 9, 2005. 10:30AM-12:30PM
You are encouraged to bring your written lecture
notes and study
notes to the exams. You are not allowed to bring materials that
you
have not prepared yourself (e.g. textbooks, copies of other people’s
notes,
etc.).
Each week, there will be a graded "evidence"
question that emulates the style of questions on
the exams.
Lecture notes for each lecture
list practice
questions drawn from the text. Since answers to these questions are
published in the problem guide, they will not be graded, but it is
highly recommended that you work them as part of your reading for each
lecture. Questions given on exams may be drawn directly or indirectly
from these recommended practice problems.
There are 5 formal written lab reports due during
the quarter.
The course grade is based upon the following components and weights:
- Midterm 100 pts
- Evidence questions 50 pts
- Final Exam 150 pts
- Laboratory 200 pts
Grades are based upon the following standard scale:
- >85% A
- 70-85% B
- 50-70% C
- 40-50% D
- below 40% F
